John Barry has been a practising hypnotherapist since 1999. He specialises in anxiety related disorders (e.g. phobias) and PNI (psychoneuroimmunology). PNI is commonly referred to as 'mind-body medicine', an area John has been exploring on his MSc Health Psychology (2004) and his PhD in biological health psychology under the supervision of Professor Melissa Hines of the University of Cambridge (May 2009).

John trained in counselling at the University of Sussex and with Cruse before studying hypnotherapy, for which he now holds a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis from the Psychotherapy and Hypnosis Training Association, and a Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis from the London College of Clinical Hypnosis.  He is fully insured, and a member of both the British Institute of Hypnotherapy and the  British Psychological Society.

Amongst other things, John is very keen in developing research in hypnotherapy and complementary medicine. One research project that looks set for national success is the Warrior Programme, an intervention to help ex-services personal suffering from combat stress.

John also teaches research methods to psychology students at university, reviews research papers for two academic journals, and is active in psychological and medical research.
